Universal and culture specific aspects of linguistic expression of emotion. Are there feelings that all people share independent of language, culture, gender, and race? Examination of the meaning and form of emotion words in different languages, facial expressions, cultural attitudes to emotion and emotional behavior, and gender-specific emotional expressions.

*Offered once each year, this is required of all EELLC Majors and Slavic Language Minors.*
Please note: students wishing to take this course in Spring 2011 or after will need the newly required pre-req: LING 200, or permission of the instructor.

Catalog Description: 
Investigate the diversity of human experience by focusing on culture specific aspects of linguistic expression of emotion. Examination of the meaning and form of emotion words in different languages, facial expressions, cultural attitudes to emotion and emotional behavior, and gender-specific emotional expressions.
