Seismic Tomography: A Window into the Earth's Interior from Crust to Core

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Kane Hall 225

Seismic waves generated by earthquakes travel provide a way to investigate the earth's structure all the way to the center, much as X-rays are used to image the human body. Professor Barbara Romanowicz of University of California, Berkeley will describe how seismic tomography works and how it has contributed to our knowledge in the past few decades.
