Theodosii Spassov solo concert

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Carco Theater, 1717 Maple Valley Highway, Renton

The kaval, an 8-hole wooden “shepherd” flute, is one of the oldest instruments in Europe, rich in tone and technical possibilities. Theodosii Spassov has developed his own unique style of playing the instrument by synthesizing traditional folklore with jazz, fusion and classical music. For over 20 years, Theodosii has toured throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, Canada and United States.

Unlike other concerts in the Theodosii Spassov 2011 North American tour which feature a full ensemble, this concert will be a unique opportunity to hear Mr. Spassov playing alone. Yes, that’s right! No hyped up band. No throbbing percussion, just his own solo virtuosic lyricism, with a couple of local musicians thrown in to mix it up.

Presented by the Bulgarian Cultural and Heritage Center of Seattle in partnership with Northwest Folklife. For information about the full tour:
