Slovene Cultural Day

Sunday, February 10, 2013 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Petersen Room, fourth floor of Suzzallo-Allen Allen Library

The event will begin at 1:30pm in the Petersen Room, fourth floor of Suzzallo-Allen Library, University of Washington, with the viewing of the Slovenian film, The Last Boat: Lake Cerknica, Slovenia’s Vanishing Lake*, with English subtitles.

After the film there will be Q & A with Aleks Markovčič, current Seattleite and native Cerkničan, with an informal discussion of Growing up beside Lake Cerknica in the (intermittently) lakeside town of Cerknica.

The official welcome will start the program which will include the Slovene literary open-microphone: brief oral recitations of favorite classic and contemporary Slovene writing by anyone in attendance who is so inclined and prepared. Texts or excerpts of texts should be kept to a maximum of 3 minutes, with introductory remarks. So that we can distribute both the original Slovene and English translated text, please contact marijazh@yahoo.com with the text you propose to present.

The celebration will conclude with a potluck social hour.

Please RSVP to slovenska.miza@gmail.com.
