UW School of Law and the Graduate Program in Sustainable International Development invite you to join a discussion on the current situation in Ukraine and its development challenges and strengths. The speakers will address the issues of war, corruption, and the impact of a growing civil society. A USAID-funded project, “Building Ukraine Together,” will be examined as an example of how a grassroots initiative can become a strong tool for public dialogue in complex political circumstances.
“Building Ukraine Together” (BUR) is a nationwide volunteer program which aims to mobilize Ukrainian youth and to unite them around the principles of mutual aid and responsibility. The Project builds strong youth communities through volunteer camps where they live and help restore houses damaged by war or houses of low-income families. Since late 2014, the project has spread its activities all over the country, has 1,525 volunteers (including Ukrainians and people from other countries, including the U.S.) and has successfully completed 250 reconstruction projects.
