Centennial Events

The department hosted a 50-year celebration event on May 11, 2018, with author Douglas Smith giving a talk titled "In Search of the Real Rasputin" at 6:30pm in Kane Hall room 210.


Douglas Smith is an award-winning historian and translator and the author of Former PeopleRasputin, and other books on Russia. Before becoming a historian, he worked for the U. S. State Department in the Soviet Union and as a Russian affairs analyst for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Munich. He lives in Seattle with his wife and two children.
