Syllabus Description (from Canvas):

You will examine linguistic features of Slavic languages.

You will learn about Slavic orthographic systems, vowels and consonants, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, numerals, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, phrases, clauses, and sentences.

The origin and major stages of linguistic history of the Slavs will be addressed.

You will familiarize yourself with most important characteristics of Slavic phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, lexicology, and pragmatics.

After taking this class you should have the basic notion as to how Slavic languages relate to and deal with reality and eventually be prepared to take Slavic language and linguistics classes.

Introduces the basic concepts of Slavic linguistics. Addresses the origin of the Slavs and major stages of their linguistic history. Considers Slavic languages and their peculiarities in detail. Taught in English.
