Concepts such as language death and language birth are explored
by examining the fates of the language known as Serbo-Croatian, on the one hand,
and, on the other, of the languages known as Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, and Serbian.
The relation between the concepts of dialect and language is analyzed.
Notions of language politics, language standardization, and language emancipation
in Southeastern Europe, in particular, and, in general, around the world are analyzed.

Examines diverse phenomena related to the language known as Serbo-Croatian, and to the Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, and Serbian languages. Explores concepts such as language death, birth, politics, standardization, and codification. The relation between dialect and language is observed in an ecology exhibiting ethnic and religious diversity.
