The GLITS Program and Slavic Department are delighted to announce the arrival of Dr. Piotr Florczyk—a poet, translator, scholar, and teacher—who will join us as our new Assistant Professor of Global Literary Studies. For more about Professor Florczyk see below. We are very lucky to have him in our midst!
As a poet, scholar and translator, who grew up in Poland and was sent to America at 16 to live with a host family and swim ten miles a day (in my previous life I was a world-ranked swimmer), I live in-between languages, surrounded by literature written by authors from around the world. In my work I have embraced a multicultural approach, stressing the importance of transnational perspective and scholarship as vehicles for crossing physical and imaginary boundaries. The same holds true for my approach to teaching, where I believe one of my responsibilities is to allow others to be heard, not just authors or scholars, but also students, who continue to inspire me. I am thrilled to be joining the Global Literary Studies Program! This coming year I will be teaching courses on war literature, migrant literature, and poetry & poetics.
