Students explore Russian culture through food.

Submitted by Chris Dawson-Ripley on

Yesterday, during Russian Table, grad students Veronica Muskheli and Nathan Marks taught students about traditional Russian food. The group prepared and enjoyed Salad Olivier (салат Оливье). It is a traditional Russian version of an enhanced potato salad. It has cooked potatoes, carrots, and green peas, hard-boiled eggs, raw onion, and pickles - all salted, peppered, and dressed with mayonnaise. It is a Russian-French fusion dish that is a must on any Russian festive table since 1860s. A big thanks to Nathan for providing the boiled vegetables, pickles, etc. and all the kitchen utensils for chopping and mixing as well as lovely blini (crepes) with jams and honey.
