Submitted by Lani Phillips on

On March 8, 2022, Maria Sonevytsky, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Music at Bard College, gave a well-attended lecture in which she contextualized Russia’s unfolding invasion of Ukraine through the history of folk music and the testimonials of Ukrainians, especially musicians, who have been living in geopolitical precarity for their entire lives.  Adjunct Professor Laada Bilaniuk moderated the talk, while opening and concluding remarks were provided by Assistant Professor Sasha Senderovich.

If you missed the talk, or would like to see it again, it is now available on the Simpson Center's YouTube channel.
