During the 2025–2026 academic year, Yana Koza served as a Fulbright FLTA. She taught the Intermediate Ukrainian language course and led the weekly Ukrainian Language Club.
Yana actively contributed to academic discussions on Ukraine through presentations at several conferences. At the Spring Research Symposium hosted by the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia at New York University, she participated in a panel reflecting on her personal experiences in Ukraine during the ongoing war. At the UIUC Slavic Forum at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, she presented her research, “Redefining the Role of Women: Wartime Gender and Identity Transformation in Ukraine”. She also presented “The Importance of Holding a Dialogue about War” at the 2026 REECAS-NW Conference at the University of Washington.
Throughout the year, Yana organized and supported numerous cultural and educational events promoting Ukrainian history, language, and culture. These included the Holodomor: Food, Memory, and Identity roundtable; a Ukrainian Christmas cuisine workshop and tasting; a presentation of the Ukrainian language program at the 2026 UW Spring Language Fair; the co-hosting of a screening of the film Homeward, followed by a discussion on Crimean Tatar identity and language in Ukraine; and a cultural quiz on Ukrainian superstitions during a community night event.
